Records iInimitable goals of FIFA World Cup making

Football is a team sport, but we have seen individual brilliance, legends born or shamed, history and match-changing strikes. FIFA World Cup has seen incredible footballers who have been iconic in club tournaments but failed to show their brilliance in the larger arena, and also the underdogs- who strike when you least expected them to. Here are five goals that are indelible in football history.

  1. Diego Maradona, Argentina, 1986

Called as the 'goal of the century' by FIFA, and the most voted goal in the category 'the best goals of all times', Maradona put 5 defenders and the English goalkeeper to shame, with a spectacular goal combined with a rampaging run.

  1. Pele, Brazil, 1958

This goal makes it to the 'best of all times' list owing to two facts- one, it came from a 17-year old and two, it helped the nation to win the World Cup 1958. Pele has already secured his name in the history books the moment he entered the playground, as the youngest player ever to play a World Cup final and this was the other key that started the engine fuelling his legendary career.

  1. James Rodriguez, Colombia, 2014

This iconic goal from Rodriguez won the 2014 Puskas Award and the best goal of the tournament award. The goal is usually termed as the attack with 'chest, turn and fire'. This goal also led Colombia to the quarter finals, where they appeared for the first time since 1998.

  1. Ronaldinho, Brazil, 2002

Termed as a 'lucky' goal by legends like David Beckham and Sol Campbell, this goal is top rated in the list of most confusing goals in history. The goal can be best described as a free kick that can be mistaken for a cross but got the top corner.

  1. Siphiwe Tshabalala, South Africa, 2010

Known as "A goal for all of Africa", this goal marked the first goal on the African soil as a part of a FIFA tournament. The absolutely left-footed stunning goal came in from Tshabalala at the 50th minute, that got them the lead against Mexico.
