Ronaldo keeps Spain at bay with a spectacular hat trick

The Spain vs. Portugal match hands down grabs the top spot for one of the most sensational matches in World Cup history. While Spain displayed supreme resilience to overcome the turbulence they have been going through since last week, the dark horse and the five -time Ballon D’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo netted a hat trick as Portugal held Spain to an exciting 3-3 draw.

Spain started with a disarray of defence and looked extremely susceptible to every Portuguese attempt, while Ronaldo successfully grabbed a penalty in the 4th minute. 20 minutes later, the Spaniards were back in the game, with a spectacular goal from Costa. The thrilling cat and mouse chase continued, with Ronaldo striking again, and signifying the first major goalkeeping blunder committed by De Gea in the World Cup 2018. Spain had an answer successively and roared back in the second half with beautifully executed front and corner goals from Costa and Nacho respectively.

However, football is one of those precious games that can turn the tables in just a second, and Ronaldo had the last laugh in the 87th minute. The Man of the match went on to create history, with the oldest person having a World Cup hat trick, and equalized the score with a completely out-of-the-world free kick that left De Gea stunned.

Portugal will be facing Morocco on 20th June for their next match at the Luzhniki Stadium while Spain will be facing table-toppers Iran on the same day at the Kazan Arena.
