The 16-year-old shooter of India, who has given the country a reason to be delighted about, is back with another Gold in a 25-meter rapid fire pistol in Junior World Cup. Anish Bhanwala, the ‘shooting-star’ of India, has previously clinched on to the Gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, being the youngest Indian to win Gold at the age of just 15.
From having a keen interest over modern pentathlon in his early school days, and participating in U-12 modern pentathlon World Championships in 2013 and Asian modern pentathlon Championships in 2015, his special focus was in one of the 5 games of pentathlon, which is Shooting. Before achieving success in 2018 Commonwealth Games, he has splendid records in ISSF Junior World Championship 2017, 2017 Commonwealth Shooting Championships and ISSF Junior World Cup 2018, winning 3 Golds and 3 Silvers individually and 1 silver by team effort.
In this year’s Junior World Cup, Anish braced past Russian shooter Egor Ismakov; shooting at least 3 hits out of 5 at a time. Topping in qualifications with 584, Anish clinched on to the Gold in the finals against the Russian with 29, while Egor managed 23. This was reportedly his 2nd Gold in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany.
Apart from Anish Bhanwala, the 25-meter rapid fire pistol category also had 3 more Indians qualifying for the final. Aadash Singh finished 4th in the competition with 17, lagging just behind Bronze winning Florian Peter from Germany with 19. The third Indian in the category, Agneya Kaushik finished with 9, securing the sixth spot. With 8 Golds, 8 Silvers and 4 Bronze, India eased past China achieving the top position the medals table.
