Despite not much of an exposure, Indian Women’s Football team has been fighting hard to clinch their deserved attention and respect from the sports community as well as the people of the nation. However, to appreciate their efforts and improvements over the past few years through several hardships, Spain decided to take a stand to value their attempt in domestic and international level.
Participating in the COTIF Cup, India did not win the tournament but earned the respect of the tournament President. At Valencia their season ended with 2 wins and 2 losses, but the fightback in each game showed an excellent performance and skill from the women’s representing our nation. Against Mauritania and Bolivia, India won the match with a dominating yet sensational approach, while the in the other two matches against Villarreal and Spain U-19, despite tough fight, they lost for 2-0.
The moment of surprise came a day after, when the COTIF Cup president Eliseu Gomez Tormos awarded them with the fair-play award. Though there was no specific prize for the third place, Tormos congratulated them for their improvement from last year’s show. The urge to improvise was visible among the team from their 2018 participation in COTIF Cup, which eventually helped Tormos to take the decision out of a gesture of admiration.
“The organization has valued the immense progress made by the Indian women’s team over the last year. They have been a combative side with a warrior spirit that has made the fans here at COTIF fall in love with them”, said President Tormos.
