In the year 2008, BCCI started a new franchisee based T-20 format, domestic cricket tournament, IPL. 8 teams from different cities participated in the tournament and Rajasthan Royals emerged as the inaugural champion. In these 11 years of IPL history Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings won the tourney thrice and Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad (once as Deccan Chargers in the year 2009) won it twice. Since 2008, there were many instances when a team successfully chased down a mammoth target of 200 runs, which is considered as next to impossible in this shortest format of cricket.
