Sunil Gavaskar and Nagarjuna purchased IBL’s Mumbai franchise

The Indian Badminton League's glamour quotient has heightened by several feats due to the involvement of former cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar and Telugu actor Nagarjuna in purchasing the event's Mumbai franchise.

In addition, the consortium includes former manager of the Indian cricket team and businessman Vankina Chamundeswaranath. The team has been named as Mumbai Masters.

Gavaskar expressed that he is proud to be linked with badminton which he has always admired and passionately followed and of course played a bit as a fan. In fact, the sport has generated legends and recorded many milestones for India and he hopes his involvement with the Indian Badminton League proves to be a commendable contribution to the grand sport of badminton.

Reckoned as USD one million league, it is all set to launch on 14th August. Astoundingly, some high-voltage action packed game is expected between PVP's Hyderabad Hotshots and BOP Group's Banga Beats. Reportedly, a total of 90 matches are scheduled to be played in the IBL which will comprise 6 franchises. The IBL is supposed to be held in six cities from 14th-31st August. This glamorous tournament will feature some of the pinnacle-50 players in the world and will be played under the Sudirman Cup format. It will be telecasted LIVE to more than 100 nations.

Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore and Lucknow are the 6 cities where the first edition of IBL will be played. In fact, each franchise will host a two-day leg and the apex four franchises will lock horns in the semifinals and the winners will clash in the grand final on 31st August in Mumbai.
