Swiss Maestro Roger Federer Might Retire Soon

Swiss Icon Roger Federer dropped hints of retirement after the Swiss Indoors final. He defeated Romanian opponent Marius Copil 7-6, 6-4 in his hometown Basel to claim the title for the ninth time. This was the Swiss maestro’s record 99th ATP title. After the match he became emotional as he explained that this might be the last time he ever plays at this tournament again. The 20 time Grand Slam champion admitted that there is no guarantee that he will be back for this tournament in 2019. This has lead to the speculation that he might dropping subtle hints of his retirement.

Federer only missed the finals of Swiss Indoors once, owing to an injury that had him sidelined for the rest of 2016 season. The world number 3 underplayed his chances of surpassing the legendary Jimmy Connors’ all-time record of 109 wins.  He stated it was not easy having a family and managing some goals, his personal milestones. Furthermore, he has stated that he’s not focusing on 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This statement has raised question on the minds of his fans that he might retire before his 40th birthday.
