Teen Spirit Leading the Way to Finals

It was a win-win situation for both the teams, when Supernovas became victorious, taking down Mithali Raj’s Velocity squad. 18-years old Jemimah Rodrigues came out to put a splendorous show to lead Supernovas to the Finals. Rodrigues’s unbeaten knock of 77 became key point towards Supernova’s win, but Velocity still managed to get the desired net run rate to end up in the finals beating Smriti Mandhana’s Trailblazers. Velocity opted to bowl first after winning the toss, and Shikha Pandey ended the slow partnership between Priya Punia (16 out; 16b; 2X4) and Chamari Athapaththu (31 out; 38b; 5X4), as she scalped Punia’s wicket in the 5th over. As Jamimah Rodrigues (77 not out; 48b; 10X4, 1X6) came to bat, she put on a magnificent show to alongside Athapaththu, Sophie Devine (9 out; 14b) and Harampreet Kaur (1 not out; 5b). When the rest failed to create an impact, she took charge of the situation leading the Supernova’s to 142 runs stand batting till the end of 20 overs with the loss of 3 wickets.

Velocity put out a great fight to win at first, then just to qualify for the Finals, to fight once more against Supernovas. Supernovas were looking very dangerous with the ball as well, when Velocity were finding it difficult to score singles let alone boundaries. Velocity lost 2 early wickets, failing to create an impact, Shafali Verma (2 out; 4b) and Harley Mathews (11 out; 12b; 2X4) departs in 3rd and 4th over. Danielle Wyatt had a promising start for the 2nd wicket, and Captain Mithali Raj walked up to the crease the duo started posing a threat to Supernovas dreams of reaching the Finals of Women’s T20 Challenge. However, Supernovas made the perfect breakthrough, as now another teenage star Poonam Yadav restricted Danielle Wyatt (43 out; 33b; 4X4, 2X6) in the 12th over, rescuing Supernovas from a loss. Mithali raj (40 not out; 42b) and Veda Krishnamurthy (30 not out; 29b; 3X4) batted till the end but still fell 12 runs short of the victory against Supernovas but manages to make the cut for Women’s T20 Challenge Finals beating Trailblazers with net run rate.
