The end of Sehwag or he script a comeback ?

An in-form Virender Sehwag would be an asset to any Test side. His ‘see ball, hit ball’ philosophy earned him tons of runs and India several victories in the past. The Nawab of Najarfgarh was a makeshift opener who defied all odds. He did not possess the watertight technique that most openers are known for. Instead he made up for it with razor sharp hand-eye co-ordination and the courage to hit out from the first ball on Day 1 of a Test.

Things however, haven’t been the same in the past few seasons. Sehwag’s consistency and reputation have both taken a beating.  It’ll take even the most ardent cricket fan awhile to recollect the last match-defining knock he played. Those memories seem to have been replaced by images of rash shots edged to the slips or of Viru playing and missing.

With diminishing reflexes and a rapidly declining average it was just a matter of time before the selectors wielded the axe. Sehwag has now been left out of India’s Test side for the third and fourth Tests against Australia.
