Valencia Tamed Wounded Barcelona in Copa del Rey

Being stunned and heartbroken, after the exit from Champions League, Barcelona wanted to ease the pain with a victory in the Copa del Rey cup, but the team was once again restricted by their opposition, this time, Valencia. At the start of the game, Barcelona was looking to seal a victory against Valencia so they could at least hold the Copa del Rey title. But Valencia was not letting their journey to the Copa del Rey glory fade away without a proper fight. Barca’s star player Lionel Messi, almost scores a goal in the 18th minute, but a desperate block by Valencia’s Gabriel Paulista saves the day for his team, as the ball heads out for a corner. In the 21st minute, Jose Luis Gaya receives a long ball from deep and with a low drive, passes it to Kevin Gameiro, who making no mistakes slides the ball straight into the net as they secure a lead against a wounded Barca. However, Valencia was far from over with their attacks as after a cooling break, in the 33rd minute, Rodrigo scores the 2nd goal for Valencia taking the lead further, as the team was not letting an inch out for Barcelona to take even a small advantage. Barcelona was trying very hard to score a goal before the half-time, and Messi almost scored one, but Jaume Domenech takes a full dive to cease the ball from getting inside the goalpost.

After the half-time, Barca was furious to take down the lead by Valencia, on the other hand, all Valencia needed to do was defend the 2 goals lead they have acquired in the first half of the game. Past the 70th minute mark, Barca was looking desperate to score, and Gerard Pique was almost there, but the ball went a little wide of the Valencia’s left post. However, Lionel Messi manages to score a single goal in the 73rd minute opening their scorecard for the night. In the penultimate moment, the referee calls for another cooling off session and after the return several tries by Barca to tie the game, and Valencia attacks to take the lead further were nullified by the tight fight by both the teams, as in the 90th minute, Valencia settles for the title of Copa Del Rey, with the 2-1 victory against Barcelona in the final day.
