West Indies tour of India- 1st Test Review

India thrashed West Indies in the first Test at home to take a 1-0 lead in the 2 match series. Batting first, Indian batsmen looked in formidable form as debutant Prithvi Shaw scored a quick-fire 134 off merely 154 balls after fellow opener, K L Rahul was dismissed for a duck. Chetaswar Pujara formed a steady partnership with Shaw, scoring 86 runs before Sherman Lewis claimed his wicket. Virat Kohli scored his 24th Test century as he added 139 runs to the scoreboard. Rahane chipped in with 41 while Rishabh Pant narrowly missed out on his century as he was dismissed for 92. Ravindra Jadeja also scored a century as India declared before the end of second day’s play after putting 649 runs on the board for the loss of 9 wickets.

virat-1

West Indies were no match for India’s bowling line up, as they could only manage to score 181 runs in their first innings. Kuldeep Yadav literally toyed with the opponents as he picked up 5 wickets in his 14 overs, giving away only 57 runs. West Indies were asked to follow on by the Indian team as they came out to bat again on day three. The story was no different this time around as the Indian bowlers got on top of the situation. Ravichandran Ashwin did it with the ball this time as India bowled them out for 196. He picked up 4 wickets, giving away only 37 runs in his 11 overs. India won the match by an innings and 272 runs. This was India’s biggest victory over the West Indian team in the history of the game.
