Will East Bengal Play Super Cup?

The investors of the East Bengal club have been asked to reconsider its stand of boycotting the season-ending Super Cup. After the executive committee meeting held on Monday, the club wrote to Quess chairman Ajit Isaac, seeking his approval to participate in the tournament.

According to a senior club official Debabrata Sarkar, the supporters, including distinguished personalities from different sections of the society like doctors and lawyers, and the players have urged the higher authorities to play the Super Cup. A handful of supporters made their choice vocal by repeatedly raising slogans in support of the club’s participation in the Super Cup while the meeting was proceeding.

Earlier a decision was taken by the football team management to skip the tournament by joining hands with six other I-League clubs. The decision was taken on account of the lack of AIFF’s clarity on Indian football’s roadmap. Apart from Isaac, the club secretary Kalyan Majumdar, president Pronab Dasgupta and Sarkar are among the directors of the company. On the other hand, Minerva FC, Aizawl FC and Kerala FC left Odhisa capital without playing their respective matches in Super Cup last week. It’s only a matter of time before East Bengal makes a decision.
