Will Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt be able to participate in the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship?

Participation of star Indian wrestlers Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt still remain uncertain as starters in the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship which is going to be held from April 18 to 22 due to their shoulder and knee injuries.

Yogeshwar Dutt assured that he is recovering well from his injury. His knee is showing signs of improvement. He is supposed to undergo a fitness test a day or two before the Championship and on that basis, the coach and the federation will finally decide about his participation.

The LondonOlympic bronze medalist declared that if he does not participate in the championship, his fellow wrestler Bajrang, who has been selected as reserve, will compete in his 60-kg category.

Both Sushil and Yogeshwar (66 kg) belong to the squad proclaimed for the Championships to be held at the K D Jadhav Stadium.

The chief national coach Vinod Kumar disclosed that he is anticipating their participation in the event but does not wish to push them hard. He added that the championship is occurring inIndia hence they can take a call on these players one day before the tournament also. Sushil is recovering fine from his shoulder injury and is practicing hard to get well in time. The more important task for them is the world championships in September. They don't wish to take risks with their injuries. The height of expectation is high from both the wrestlers in the world championships inHungary.

It is expected that Yogeshwar's first match will be on 20th April, while Sushil’s match will take place on 22nd April in their respective weight categories in case they play in the Asian meet.

The London Olympic silver medalist Sushil did not participate in any of the tournament since last year whereas Yogeshwar had missed the Dave Schultz Cup held in February due to the same injury.
