Will the London Marathon commence on Sunday?

In spite of the death of at least two people in blasts near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, the race organizers announced that the London Marathon would go ahead on Sunday. Meanwhile, the police would review the security plans.

It is yet to be confirmed that the terror attack is responsible for the Boston explosions on Monday. However, the shocking incident suddenly sparked apprehensions of a similar incident at the London race.

London Marathon Chief Executive Nick Bitel proclaimed that they will not cancel what they are doing. They are still reviewing. He assured that one looks at what has occurred. If there are steps, they will increase the security and all sorts of measures one could arrange. He added that they run through the city, when the other have an event of any nature--a marathon, parade, it is just as safe as the city itself. In case it is not organized in a stadium, one cannot do a lockdown like one may do in a building.

Thousands of people, which include renowned international athletes, contend in the London Marathon every year. The race is supposed to commence after six days while there was previous speculation that the event could get cancelled due to safety reasons.

Bitel lamented that he was deeply saddened and shocked by the news. He admitted that their immediate thoughts are with the people present there and their families. It is a very pathetic day for athletics and for their friends and colleagues in marathon running. He assured that their security plan was developed cooperatively with the Metropolitan Police and they were in constant contact with them as soon as they heard the news.

Met Police Chief Superintendent Julia Pendry declared that a security plan is ready for the London Marathon. They will be reviewing their security arrangements in partnership with London Marathon.

To be precise, the explosions in Boston occurred after the elite race was over. Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia clinched victory in the men's race with Rita Jeptoo who won the women's event.

The British women's marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe was horrified to hear the news of bomb blast near Boston marathon finish. She hoped that there are no serious casualties. The situation looked awful giving birth to serious thoughts in everyone. She believes that there are some sick people out there, who would act something like this.

The Boston race--the world's oldest yearly Marathon is organized every year on the United States' Patriot's Day.
