Xavi Says 32 Teams Is Suitable For World Cup

2010 World Cup winner, Xavi Hernandez is here in India as a part of Qatar’s Generation Amazing programme. However that did not stop him from entering a dry mud ground in Colaba to play soccer with the kids in the scorching heat. He offered a few tips to the young, enthusiastic listeners before walking off the field. But it was not a problem for the veteran star player as he’s used to the heat in Doha. Xavi has been playing for Qatar’s Al-Sadd SC for the past four years in a deal that saw him become the ambassador for the 2022 Fifa World Cup to be held in Qatar.

Although FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been campaigning in favour of the 2022 World Cup having 48 teams competing, Xavi feels otherwise. He believes a 32-team World Cup is suitable for spectators and even for the players as the competition won’t be too long.

The 39 year old was recently in the headlines as Argentine superstar Lionel Messi scored a stunning hat-trick in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Real Betis to record his 477th victory for the club, surpassing the playmaker’s record of 476. Xavi had to get accustomed to, rather quickly, was playing in near-empty stadia after leaving Barcelona in 2015. But he’s enjoying his time at this club and seems to be enjoying his role as ambassador for 2022 World Cup.
